Even een sentimenteel nootje bij het verschijnen van Octane 034. Daarin staat een verhaal waarvoor collega Perry Snijders al sinds zo ongeveer de redactievergadering voor Octane 001<\/a> achter m’n broek zit en dat we uiteindelijk dik drie jaar geleden zijn begonnen te maken, niet lang na het verschijnen van onze co-productie over Bud Bakker Schut<\/a>, de Nederlandse winnaar van de Rally van Monte Carlo van 1938.<\/p>\n

Want waarom dan niet zo’n zelfde verhaal over J.J. Sprenger van Eijk, die diezefde rally in 1929 won en daarmee de eerste Nederlander werd die iets van betekenis deed in de autosport. En van wie nota bene niemand wist wat eigenlijk zijn voornaam was.<\/p>\n

Nu staat het resultaat eindelijk in druk. Over vele pagina’s. Met prachtige foto’s uit het eigen archief van Sprenger van Eijk. En het moet gezegd: alleen in Octane had zo’n uitgebreid artikel kunnen verschijnen, want alleen Ton Roks en Hetty Louwaard durven het aan om ook zo’n verhaal over een totaal vergeten Nederlandse autosportheld de ruimte te geven.
