Met het boek over 30 jaar MP Motorsport is mijn tweede boek in twee maanden een feit. In juni verscheen Wiet Huidekoper, The Life and Legacy of a Race Car Designer<\/em>, waarvoor ik de eindredactie deed. Zelf schreef ik in het eerste halfjaar van 2026 A Unique Racing Family, 30 Years of MP Motorsport<\/em>, dat vandaag het daglicht ziet. De offici\u00eble presentatie vindt in Zandvoort plaats, tijdens een speciale gelegenheid van MP Motorsport voor media en sponsors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Net als bij de biografie over Wiet Huidekoper<\/a> werkte ik voor het boek over MP Motorsport nauw samen met Gerrie Hoekstra van Fast Company, die de productie en drukbegeleiding verzorgde, en zijn dochter Jiska Hoekstra, die voor de vormgeving verantwoordelijk was. Los van de bekende tegenvallers in het maakproces \u2013 foto\u2019s die moeilijk te vinden waren, afspraken die moesten worden verschoven vanwege de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten \u2013 was het een gestroomlijnde samenwerking.<\/p>\n

Dat kon ook niet anders als je met twee boeken tegelijk bezig bent. Want terwijl het boek over Huidekoper in het eerste kwartaal werd afgerond, was ik druk bezig met alle gesprekken en het uitwerken van alle teksten. Gerrie en Jiska probeerden intussen zo veel mogelijk in blokken te werken, om niet te veel focus te verliezen, maar ook hun werk wisselde zich af tussen \u2018Wiet\u2019 en \u2018MP\u2019. Want al gold voor het eerste boek geen harde deadline, voor het tweede boek w\u00e9l. Dat wilde MP Motorsport graag kunnen presenteren op 21 augustus, aan de vooravond van de laatste GP van Nederland. En dus konden ook zij niet anders dan alvast vooruitwerken aan ontwerpvoorstellen en aan MP-pagina\u2019s die al klaar waren. Intussen moesten we nog de laatste hand leggen aan het boek over Wiet Huidekoper.<\/p>\n

Ondanks de grote uitdaging zijn we glansrijk in onze missies geslaagd, al zeg ik het zelf. Er liggen twee prachtige stoeptegels van dik 300 pagina\u2019s, als fraai gebonden vierkleurenuitgaven met harde omslag.<\/p>\n

\"Boeken<\/a><\/p>\n

Het is niet het eerste jubileumboek dat ik voor MP Motorsport heb gemaakt. In 2015 verscheen de voorganger bij het 20-jarig bestaan van het team uit Westmaas, waarvan de laatste exemplaren nog tegen een vriendelijk prijsje te koop zijn<\/a>. Maar in de afgelopen tien jaar groeide MP uit tot het grootste formuleteam van de wereld, een nieuw stuk geschiedenis dat nog helemaal niet was geboekstaafd. Eigenaar Henk de Jong en teambaas Sander Dorsman vonden het daarom tijd voor een update.<\/p>\n

Het is uiteindelijk m\u00e9\u00e9r dan een update geworden, want in de laatste tien jaar is meer gebeurd dan in de 20 jaar ervoor. Delen van het eerste jubileumboek zijn (in bewerkte en geactualiseerde vorm) hergebruikt in het nieuwe boek, maar ruim de helft bestaat uit nieuw materiaal. Een belangrijke beslissing daarbij was om veel meer aandacht te besteden aan de teamleden en niet alleen aan de coureurs. De teamleden maken tenslotte het team en bepalen de teamsfeer. Die unieke teamsfeer is tot in de titel van het boek terug te vinden: A Unique Racing Family<\/em>, maar ook in de vormgeving, onder meer via \u2018ansichtkaarten\u2019 die de groeten doen van elk seizoen. Het boek is vanaf vandaag te bestellen in de webshop van MP Motorsport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wat het boek ook uitademt: het team is nog lang niet klaar. Het doet nu weliswaar mee aan alle mogelijke internationale kampioenschappen voor formuleauto\u2019s en is daar ook succesvol in \u2013 dat succes kan altijd nog groter worden. Bovendien heeft eigenaar De Jong recent besloten om uit te breiden aan de onderkant: MP heeft nu ook zijn eigen kartteam waarmee het zelf zijn talentenladder wil voeden. Dat hoofdstuk staat als nieuwste onderneming nu nog helemaal achter in het boek over 30 jaar MP Motorsport, maar wie weet waar het staat als we na 40 jaar opnieuw de balans gaan opmaken\u2026<\/p>\n
