Het openingsbal<\/h2>\n

Met de 12 uur van Sebring, die komende zaterdag tot in de late uurtjes wordt verreden, gaat dit jaar de Intercontinental Le Mans Challenge (ILMC) van start. Dit nieuwe langeafstandskampioenschap, met de 24 uur van Le Mans als hoogtepunt, wordt in 2011 het strijdtoneel voor de snelste prototypes (Audi, Peugeot, Aston Martin) en GT\u2019s (Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, BMW). De endurance-liefhebbers zitten op het puntje van hun stoel, zeker als het weer net zo mooi wordt als in de filmpjes hieronder…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Na een jaartje droogoefenen, met drie races aan het slot van het seizoen die meetelden voor de eerste ILMC, gaat het dit seizoen echt gebeuren: een heus langeafstandskampioenschap voor prototypes in de Le Mans-klasses LMP1 en LMP2 en daarnaast voor de snelste GT2\u2019s. Een unicum voor onze generatie is bovendien dat de 24 uur van Le Mans<\/a> voor het eerst sinds mensenheugenis meetelt voor een kampioenschap.<\/p>\n

De Grote Race<\/a> bevindt zich in goed gezelschap. Het ILMC-seizoen gaat van start op Sebring<\/a> in Florida, doet daarna in mei de 1000 km van Spa aan als grote voorbereiding op Le Mans zelf in juni<\/a>. Dan volgen in juli en september twee zesuursraces op Imola en Silverstone<\/a>, waarna het seizoen wordt afgesloten met de Petit Le Mans<\/a> op Road Atlanta en nog een zesuursrace in China<\/a>. De race op Spa is de Geheimtipp voor elke Nederlander die het complete Le Mans-veld op volle oorlogssterkte van zeer nabij wil meemaken \u2013 zie de DF-voorbeschouwing van de race van 2010<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Even opletten: drie kampioenschappen in \u00e9\u00e9n<\/h2>\n

Wel verwarrend: alle races, op Le Mans en de Chinese race na, maken tegelijk deel uit van de Le Mans Series (dat geldt voor Spa, Imola en Silverstone) en de American Le Mans Series (dat geldt voor Sebring en de Petit Le Mans), met allebei ook hun eigen deelnemers. Vooral Europese teams doen vaak aan zowel de ILMC als de LMS mee, hoewel de fabrieksteams (Audi, Peugeot, Aston Martin) exclusief voor de ILMC hebben gekozen.<\/p>\n

In de ALMS passen ze in ieder geval een handig trucje toe: alle ALMS-deelnemers krijgen op Sebring een 0 voor hun startnummer. Als extra hulp om de drie kampioenschappen uit elkaar te houden, kun je dit handige DF-overzicht over alle sportwagenkampioenschappen<\/a> nog eens doornemen.<\/p>\n
